Monday, February 06, 2012 Tulip Data Center Services Pvt Ltd (Tulip), a 100% owned subsidiary of Tulip Telecom Ltd, India’s leading Enterprise Data Services provider today announced the commercial launch of its Bengaluru Data Center, Tulip Data City (TDC), which is Asia’s largest and the world’s third largest Data center. Mr Sachin Pilot, Hon’ble Minister of State for Communication and IT inaugurated this world-class Data center.

The Tulip Data City is a multi-tiered facility built to tier 4 and tier 3 standards. Large hosted Data Center facilities such as this one are multi-tenanted, and because of the scale, are far more efficient than smaller facilities, therefore saving huge amounts of power. Being the most ‘green’ and the most power efficient data center in India, the facility is expected to save close to 35 MW power at full capacity. This because of an extremely high Power Utilization Efficiency of around 1.5 compared to the industry average of over 2.

The company has been implementing aggressive sales and marketing programme to achieve its target of booking 25%capacity by the end of FY12

Speaking on the launch, Lt Col HS Bedi, Chairman & Managing Director, Tulip Telecom Ltd. said, “This data center by Tulip Telecom is a testimony to our focus on constant innovation and commitment towards adopting new technologies. Large enterprises and global leaders are partnering with Tulip progressively through this data center as they see cost optimization and complete security of their mission critical data. We believe that with this state of the art Data Center facility, our customers are assured that Tulip will fulfill their needs pertaining to data management and date security. The launch of this world class facility is aligned with our vision to become one of the largest players in the data services space globally. With this, the data center is now a completely independent operational subsidiary with a strong financial backbone , operational infrastructure and a robust organization”

On this occasion, Mr Sachin Pilot, Hon’ble Minister of State for Communication and IT said “I am happy to be a part of the inauguration of this technology marvel which is the third largest data center in the world. Data Centers are at the heart of today’s digital revolution and enable not enterprise services but also many Government to Citizen services. It is a matter of pride that India today boasts of a world class Data center, which is the largest outside of the US.” -

The hosted Data Center market is a booming space with huge potential for growth. Enterprises today face a multitude of business challenges, which are propelling them to outsource their Data center operations. Demand for Hosted Data centers has been on a high due to factors like cost optimization, power, cooling, data security and disaster recovery expertise. Analysts forecast that the hosted data center market is expected to witness the highest CAGR of 18.4% in 2011 through 2016*. India's Data center market for raised floor space has been growing at a healthy 25% to 30% annual rate in the last three years. IDC estimates that the amount of information managed by enterprise data centers will grow 50 times over the next decade, and in the next two years alone the number of servers installed will increase by 49 percent over those installed currently. Going forward, managed and cloud services will gain prominence in the coming 3-4 years. Cloud, primarily Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), will grow at 35-40% and become an integral part of Data Center business**.

To fulfill the expected demand towards this huge potential, Tulip Telecom has built this data center offering the latest in world class technologies. It is spread across 0.9 million sq.ft. A modern day fortress, this facility has the capacity to house upto 12,000 racks, backed by up to 100 MW of Power. This facility is equipped with an Integrated Building Management Systems, which ensures management of every component of the data centre to include power, cooling, security and air-conditioning. Seating space for upto 1500 people, which will enable enterprises to provide immediate support to their equipment hosted here. The data centre being modular, will continue to be expanded by Tulip over the next three years.

The Tulip Data center is a technology marvel built by the company in Tulip’s journey from being an enterprise data connectivity provider to becoming the leading enterprise data services provider. To make this state of the art Data center facility Tulip teamed with industry leaders like IBM, HP, Cisco, EMC, Schneider Electric, Emerson, Panduit and Corning among others to build the facility. Schnabel of Germany was the design review consultant for the data center. This data center is built to meet the LEED Gold Standards.

Tulip’s modular data center is fully capable of delivering cloud solutions in order to cater to the always-changing data and connectivity needs of today’s enterprises and the government sector. The facility will serve the hosting, co-location, storage and bandwidth needs of large, small and medium businesses in the region, while also serving as a disaster recovery facility for enterprises across the world.

Tulip Telecom has been able to set the highest service delivery standards in data center services with its mature service delivery practices and security standards. The company already has four operational data centers (two in Mumbai, and one each in Delhi and Bengaluru) with ISO 20000-1 & ISO 27001 certifications to ensure reliable and high quality service delivery.
