Tuesday, February 07, 2012:
Apkudo, Inc., an Android innovation start-up, today announced Apkudo Device Analytics software for testing new Android smartphones and tablets as part of prepping those devices for launch to consumers.
Apkudo Device Analytics, a new software and services offering, characterizes Android device behavior to help mobile network operators and device manufacturers (OEMs) optimize the end-user experience. Apkudo Device Analytics helps find device and application performance problems before release, helping operators and OEMs launch Android handsets and tablets with greater confidence of commercial success.

Freedom and openness are hallmarks of the Android platform, but can also create challenges to interoperability and performance through fragmentation. When Android implementations diverge in hardware, look and feel, behavior, APIs and other aspects, popular applications may work on some Android phones and tablets but not on others. The Android ecosystem boasts hundreds of thousands of Android apps and hundreds of Android-based devices, with new apps and devices released every month. OEMs and operators face the challenge of determining whether popular apps will run on new devices in their portfolios and how users will receive those new phones and tablets.
"Apkudo Device Analytics helps speed handsets and tablets to market, finding usability problems earlier in acceptance testing," said Josh Matthews, Apkudo, CEO. "Testing with Apkudo Device Analytics helps OEMs and operators meet the fragmentation challenge and position new devices to be competitive in the dynamic mobile marketplace."
Apkudo Device Analytics uses a mix of core Android system applications and a representative workload of the top 200 apps in the Android Market to test multiple attributes of the user experience. Tests mimic actual device usage -- scroll speed in launcher, responsiveness of dialer etc., along with performance characteristics and stability.
Apkudo Device Analytics builds on broad-based user experience testing and comparisons to both standard reference values and actual devices. Apkudo performs deep analysis of the data collected by comprehensive test suites and provides concrete specific recommendations, not just abstract benchmark results. Device Analytics also makes it easy to interpret multi-faceted test results by creating ratings and ranking based on key device parameters, on absolute scales and relative to other devices on the market.
Apkudo Device Analytics complements the Apkudo App Analytics Platform, launched in November 2011. Apkudo App Analytics Platform lets Android application developers test their software on a comprehensive portfolio of mobile devices. Apkudo Device Analytics uses the top apps in the Android Market and a range of other test harnesses to help OEMs and operators assure that new smartphones and tablets offer mobile subscribers a best-in-class user experience.
