Industry’s Latest Quad core Cortex A9 Qseven SOM Using i.MX 6 Series

The i.MX 6 Series processor is Freescale’s latest release in the i.MX family of processors and mass production samples will be available later this year. Requiring just eight weeks from concept to completion, iWave Systems Technologies has taken full advantage of its versatility and introduced the first Qseven standard compatible i.MX6 System-On-Module (SOM).

The i.MX6 Qseven SOM uses Freescale’s i.MX 6 Series 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A9 Quad/Dual/Solo core processor which is optimised for high speed and multimedia applications. The module is Qseven R1.20 standard compliant and targets the Industrial, Automotive and Medical verticals.
Incorporating on-board eMMC flash, Micro SD slot and expandable DDR3 memory, the module also features the latest high performance interfaces including PCIe Gen2, Gigabit Ethernet, SATA 3.0, HDMI 1.4, SDXC and MIPI CSI/DSI. Designed with a rich feature set, the i.MX6 Qseven module focuses on the high demand automotive infotainment (IVI) and Telematics market. Also the combination of high performance and low power makes it ideal for applications such as Advanced HMI, Video and Navigation, Portable Medical devices, Digital signage and Single Board SOC Computing.

The realization of SOM is incomplete without the exhibition of its potential. Hence iWave has catapulted the SOM usage showcase through the i.MX6x Development Kit thereby speeding up the time to market for engineers wishing to use the new processor for their system development. The development kit includes the generic Q7 carrier board in Nano ITX form factor which supports all major interface connectors to evaluate the i.MX6 functionality.
iWave Systems Technologies Pvt.Ltd. first demonstrated the i.MX6 Quad core Qseven SOM with Android 4.0 at Embedded World-2012 in February at Nuremberg,Germany.
