Over 300 children of HP’s India R&D employees recently took part in the ‘Fun In the Sun’ summer carnival organised by HP India R&D, at its Mahadevapura campus in Bangalore. The event brought together employees’ children from across the five diverse HP R&D businesses in Bangalore. Children from the age groups of 3 to 12 participated in a full day of interactive celebrations and fun workshops.

Presented in collaboration with D’frens, the event was organized to help children of HP employees better understand the contributions their parents make at work and to develop a greater sense of community among HP employees and their families.
“The bring your kids to work day existed historically in HP, and as we connect with the HP Way, we wanted to revive this culture, engage with our employees and build a strong sense of community across HP India R&D employees. We also wanted our employees’ children to better understand the work their parents do and feel proud that their parents work at HP,” said Sudakshina Ghosh, Country HR Manager HP India R&D. “The family connection in HP is very central to the HP Way and it was a fantastic initiative to have the HP India R&D Kids Carnival. The vibrancy of the kids, the parents and the volunteers was truly phenomenal, and it was a great effort from all the hands that went behind this flawless event”, said Ajay Gupta, vice president – Imaging & Printing Group.
“The Back to the Garage, was a great concept, where the children could experiment with the Potter’s wheel, the Pedal Power and the basics of Aerodynamics. My son was particularly impressed with the bicycles that could generate electricity and now wants to build something similar with his bicycle at home. I think these events were really thought through and my son thoroughly enjoyed himself! “, said Ambrose Rajendram an employee who had brought his 10 year old son, Calvin.
Workshops and activities were customised to different age groups. They included activities such as puppetry, contemporary dance, mini T-shirt painting, building blocks and balloon art. Fun concepts with math were also explored using origami and kirigami techniques. Basic science concepts and their use in daily life were explored through fun activities such as ‘The Potter’s Wheel’, ‘Pedal Power’ and Aero-modelling.
The day ended with a ‘Grand Finale Drum Jam’ session where all the children came together and created a Jam with drums, jamborees and other musical instruments.
