Srikanth Chandrasekaran To Drive IEEE Standards Association Programs

IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA), the standards development body of IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional association formally announced the appointment of Srikanth Chandrasekaran as Senior Regional Program Manager, India. In this strategic role, Sri (as he is popularly known) will drive all of the standards related initiatives and programs in India. The appointment of a senior industry professional to drive Standards is in line with the increasing commitment of IEEE-SA to the Indian market. Attached to IEEE India office in Bangalore, Sri will continue to chair the IEEE-SA India SIG (Standards Interest Group). One of the key focus areas for Sri would be forging strategic partnerships in the region with government institutions, academic, corporate sectors and other relevant stakeholders important to the standards development activity In India.

Prior to joining IEEE, Sri was with Freescale Semiconductors (formerly Motorola Inc.) as part of its Technology Solutions Organization for 17 years, focusing on development of internal tools and methodologies used by hardware designers. As chairperson of IEEE-SA India SIG (initiated by the IEEE Standards Association and the IEEE Bangalore section), Sri over the past year was involved in enabling participation and contribution to standards development activities through focus groups aligned to areas like Smart Grid, Cloud etc. among others.
Commenting on the appointment, Karen McCabe, Senior Director, Strategic Marketing & Product development, IEEE-SA, said,"Sri coming on board will significantly strengthen our ability to expand, and reinforce our multiple programs and initiatives in India. We look forward to his role in taking our engagement with India to the next level."
"IEEE sees immense potential for IEEE Standards Association in the Indian market,” said Harish Mysore, Director, IEEE India Operations. “This appointment will enable us to disseminate IEEE's vast experience in standards development with key stakeholders here and thus encourage development of future global standards from India," he added.Â
In his comments Sri (Srikanth Chandrasekaran), said,"I am happy and privileged to be entrusted with the role of driving IEEE-SA programs and initiatives in India. I am a strong believer of the benefits India can derive from an increased engagement with IEEE-SA. It would be one of my key goals in this new role besides expanding the footprint of the organization here, with the active support of volunteers and colleagues in India and globally."
IEEE-SA with over 100 standards and standards-in-development spanning the entire Smart Grid spectrum is playing the role of an ecosystem facilitator in India investing in awareness and education initiatives as well. It is also engaged in looking at incorporating some of the unique inputs specific to the Indian context in the global standards development process. More standards are in the pipeline providing among the most comprehensive, globally accepted and validated set of standards that enable better interoperability, connection, communication and management of the various elements that go into a Smart Grid.
