Monday, July 16, 2012 'Jashan', an exceptional and modern auditorium at Jabalpur Engineering College (JEC) was inaugurated today by Shri Prabhat Sahu , Mayor Jabalpur Corporation. This support and contribution in the form of a state of the art auditorium built in the campus will enhance the college's overall infrastructure. Mr. Ajai Chowdhry as the Founder of HCL has played an integral role in creating India's IT industry over the last 36 years. Jashan was conceptualised by Mr. Ajai Chowdhry to give back to his Alma Mater and to honour his parents, Shri Jai Krishna Chowdhry and Smt. Shakuntala Devi.

Shri Jai Krishna Chowdhry was the Municipal Commissioner of Jabalpur and was an integral part of the ethos of Jabalpur. Dedicating the auditorium to the fond memory of his parents, Mr Ajai Chowdhry said, "Today is a very special day for me as a long cherished dream of mine has come to fruition. My parents have always been proud to be a part of this historic and marvellous city and I have wonderful memories of growing up here. JEC, my Alma Mater has also contributed immensely to my personal and professional growth and I am really happy today to humbly contribute back to this great institution. I am most thankful for the fantastic support accorded by the staff of JEC in realizing this project. I have given close to four decades of my life to building India through technology and will continue to give back to the society that made me."

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. P.K.Jhinge, Principal Jabalpur Engineering College said, "We are really thankful to Mr. Chowdhry for his invaluable contribution to our institution. This auditorium we are sure, will contribute immensely to our institution's learning culture. We will always cherish this wonderful gift from one of the most distinguished alumnus of our institute. "

This new auditorium has a seating capacity of 280 with all amenities like audio-visual surround sound, central air-conditioning, aesthetically designed public areas and green room. It provides the perfect ambience for holding conventions, workshops and cultural meets.

The idea of Jashan stems from its meaning, of joyous celebrations. Jashan, the auditorium true to its name has been created to stand for and commemorate a special event or occasion. Also Jashan is a combination of the names Jai Krishna and Shakuntala Devi to whom this auditorium is dedicated. Jabalpur was a cherished part of Shri Jai Krishna Chowdhry's life and after retirement he settled in the city. His passion for Urdu poetry was truly brought alive in this city and he himself became a much loved part of the city's ethos. He wrote under the pseudonym "Habib". He also took an active part in India's struggle for freedom.

Jashan was conceptualised and created with the help of many people. Dr. M. Selot, Prof. P.K. Jhinge and other staff members of Jabalpur Engineering College, Shri Arun Pachori & Jabalpur Engineering College Alumni Association- all contributed handsomely in completing the project. Honourable Shri Laxmi Kant Sharma, Minister Technical Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Members of Board of Governors, Administrative Authorities of Jabalpur, Shri SK Gupta and others also extended their whole hearted support for the creation of the auditorium.
