Monday, July 23, 2012 College visits have moved into the digital age, thanks to a revolutionary new state-of-the-art mobile application for the iPhone which launched this week. Quad2Quad is a college search engine that dramatically simplifies the process of planning college visits & tours for college-bound students and their families. Quad2Quad's sophisticated search engine enables families to plan visits to the colleges of their choice, without having the hassle of combing multiple college websites. "Before Quad2Quad, ferreting out the college interview policies on their websites was challenging as often colleges can bury that information, putting many prospective students at risk of missing the boat," according to Donald Dunbar noted educational consultant and author of What You Don't Know Can Keep You Out of College. "With Quad2Quad, all this critical information is literally at their fingertips."

Quad2Quad functions as a virtual travel assistant for the user, both suggesting regional itineraries as well as allowing families to create itineraries customized to their needs. It provides accurate dates and times for tours and information sessions at each school, with an alert system that notifies the user when an admissions office will be closed, or whether the school requires a reservation prior to visiting. The result is less time wasted planning the logistics of a college trip, potentially saving candidates from the glitches and embarrassment of showing up at colleges without needed reservations, parking and closures information.

"Quad2Quad is a lifesaver for us because it is so hard to know whether you will be able to make a specific tour or info session until you show up at the school and figure out the parking. Fortunately, this app takes the mystery out of whether we are going to find any parking perils (need for permit, limited or distant parking) when we arrive," wrote Will Goodman, an educational consultant in Westchester and the father of a high school junior.

Quad2Quad will be marketed to high school guidance counselors and college-bound families from domestic and international public and private schools A free intro app includes five colleges and a sample itinerary in the Boston area. The $4.99 application includes a database of 74 of the most frequently visited colleges and universities in the United States, with another 300 slated to be added over the next year. Aware that high school students need to be more engaged in the visit, Quad2Quad plans to add a robust social networking component in the fall of 2012. This will make it possible for visiting students to check-in en route with prospective visitors from different high schools on their way to the same campus as well as connect with designated "ambassadors" volunteers on each campus who share their interests via email or text.

Quad2Quad co-founders Susan Jones and Liz Van Sant remark: "We created this tool to help parents plan their college tours wisely and painlessly. We hope the time we saved them in gathering information from multiple websites and phone calls will be spent in enjoying their visit rather than feeling stressed about whether they have covered all the bases. Quad2Quad has them covered."
