Monday, July 23, 2012 Samsung Electronics, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, has kicked off a major marketing campaign across platforms to unite fans and provide them an opportunity to share the Olympic spirit. The campaign is uniquely designed to inspire and excite the fans to feel the passion of the games and support their favourite players as they prepare to bring home glory.

Samsung India is the Official Sponsor of the Indian team to the London 2012 Olympic Games and is also supporting eight high potential Indian sportsmen and women through its Samsung Olympic Ratna program. “Samsung is a worldwide partner of Olympics and in India we run several programs and initiatives to encourage and promote our sporting talent. Our high decibel marketing campaign across digital, print, TV and at the retail level will help the Olympics enthusiasts to remain connected to their favourite sports and players”, states Mr. Rahul Saighal, Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung India.

The Company has also kicked off a Massive digital campaign to rally support for the Indian Olympic team. As part of its endeavour to make this year’s Olympics one that everyone can truly be part off, Samsung has set up a special page on Facebook with a ‘Fans Speak’ application that allows fans to send their best wishes to the Indian team members. All they have to do is visit www.facebook.com/samsungIN and put in their wish and they also stand a chance to win exciting gifts from Samsung. Consumers can also wish the Indian team by accessing this application from their mobile phones by logging onto m.samsungolympics2012.in .Samsung is also setting up more than 500 kiosks at its mobile retail channel and Smartphone cafes with Samsung Galaxy SIII, its Olympic phone, from where consumers can send their wishes to the team.

Exclusive Mobile Apps for the Olympic Games

An exclusive Olympics app called ‘PlayUp’ has been developed which will be available to users free of cost at the Samsung App Store under the special ‘London 2012’ category. This app is downloadable on select Samsung Galaxy Smartphones. The app is a powerhouse of features and functionality and will keep the users up to date with the latest action at the biggest sporting event on the planet.

The home screen features a running countdown to the start of the 2012 Summer Olympics and provides access to various sports. However, the real action will begin once the games commences. The app has been designed to provide live updates and brings the action straight from the games to the user’s smartphone. With an interactive design and superb graphics, the users will be able to view live feeds of a mix of sports and can access scores and updates. Country based geo-targeting will give the users the most relevant and interesting content for the country that they support. ‘News Tiles’ is an interesting feature that will display news segregated by location and sport. Olympic Games are expected to create an explosion of conversation on various social media and the ‘Buzz and Polls’ section will creatively track and gather the social media action, segmented by location and sport. The app will also feature tiles for medal tally, schedules, key events, player ranking, etc., to ensure that the users remain abreast of all the action.

Besides PlayUp, there are several other interesting Olympic Games apps in the Samsung App store. Ranging from games, entertainment to information, these apps are sure to keep the users actively engaged.

'PlayUp' is the first global mobile-based social network dedicated to live sport and has been the number one free sports App in 28 countries worldwide.'

New GALAXY S III TV commercial

Samsung is supporting its Olympic Games campaign with a TV commercial featuring the legendary David Beckham, who is also Samsung’s official ambassador for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Beckham opens the commercial with a message on his GALAXY S III and marks the beginning of the games by landing an impossibly perfect kick across a football field and onto a moving gong. This begins a highly energetic and emotive sequence that sees people all over the world watch and share Beckham’s kick through their GALAXY S III. The Olympic Games spirit spreads fast and soon inspires young and old from across the world to embrace the London 2012 Games as ‘Everyone’s Games’.

The campaign is based around the recently launched GALAXY S III, which is Samsung’s Olympic Games phone. Designed for humans and inspired by nature, the GALAXY S III uses advanced technology and intuitive characteristics to inspire, excite and connect, allowing everyone to watch, participate and enjoy the Olympic Games like never before.
