Monday, July 30, 2012 Technology is changing the way we live our lives and run our businesses. With the rapidly expanding economy, India is witnessing a surge in demand for home appliances and ICT products and services. A World Bank Group Strategy report states that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry has forecasted that the total spending in 2012 will reach $91.7 Billion, a 12.3 percent increase from 2011.

As India becomes increasingly globalised, one of the key role changers is the course in the adoption rate of technology products in various spheres of one’s daily life. As consumers in India are increasingly becoming technology savvy, they also require ease of use and utility value to embrace newer technologies.

The high rate of adoption of consumer technology and proliferation of digital products and services demonstrates that technological maturity is gaining momentum in India. Taiwan’s ICT industry, which comprises some globally renowned players like ASUS, ACER, ADATA, Avision, AVerMedia, BenQ, D-Link, Edimax, GIGABYTE, HTC, Transcend, and Optoma have created significant impact on Indian consumers and Indian ICT market. Some other Taiwan brands also have influence on global market, such as AVer, COOLER MASTER, Enermax, Genius, Just Mobile, PQI, Silicon Power, and Thermaltake. You can explore these excellent brands via www.taiwanexcellence.in

Taiwan has concentrated on information technology to build a concrete foundation of research, development and branding. It is also focusing on a comprehensive supply chain covering design, manufacturing, marketing and branding functions. As a result, latest electronic products, such as personal computers, smart phones, storage devices, and broadband equipments and media players from this island are always chart toppers around the world. Reaching a state of "Hypermobility", consumers are rapidly adopting mobile technologies and downloading apps that keep them connected anywhere, anytime. In addition to this, emerging markets lead the growth of many consumer technologies. The increasing presence of Taiwan brands is one manifestation of this consumer trend.

Taiwan has emerged as a major procurement centre for global ICT companies and buyers and thus it manufactures products as per consumer’s expectations. Riding this consumer lifestyle where technology is increasingly playing a role across various consumer segments and categories, Taiwan brands address the needs of evolving Indian consumers. For more than ten product categories, the country ranks number 1 in the global ICT market share. Although Taiwan entered the Indian market later than the Japanese and Koreans, it has still managed to achieve a high growth rate. Taiwanese products are increasingly finding integral space in lives of Indian consumers in various ways. This integration in consumers’ lives revolves around the technological excellence, which these brands bring to life. When you turn on a laptop, surf the Internet or answer a call, there’s a good chance you are using Taiwan’s innovative technologies or products.

Taiwan provides a large share of the most advanced laptops, tablets and smart phones in the world. In the second quarter of 2012, Taiwanese companies are leading the world in manufacturing laptops. In 2011, every one in every four laptop carries a Taiwanese brand such as Acer or ASUS. In fact, these two companies are amongst the top 3 largest laptop makers of the world, enjoying more market share than all Japanese and Korean companies.

According to Department of Investment Services, Ministry of Indian Economic Affairs Research 2012, Taiwan’s global market share in manufacturing ICT products includes:

90%: Notebook PCs
80%: Motherboards
70%: PDAs
70%: LCD monitors
50%: Mobile phones
30%: Smart phones

The Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan stated that Taiwan companies produce more than 70% of LCD monitors, 88% of netbooks, and more than 94% of laptops, worldwide. Taiwan’s superiority in hardware offers a perfect match for India’s intelligence in software. Our ICT products’ aim at Creating an Excellent Home with an Excellent Lifestyle with the focus of bringing a whole new way of life to India’s new age stylish customers. At the core Taiwan’s focus is on the end consumers and their evolving needs across segments and categories in India.”

The uniqueness of Taiwanese brands is their ability to spot a consumer need and trend and innovate for the end users benefit. A fairly large portion of the world’s USB flash drives is manufactured by Taiwanese players such as Transcend, ADATA, PQI, and Silicon Power. Transcend is a globally recognized leader in the manufacture of storage and multimedia products offers a full line of memory modules, flash memory cards, USB flash drives, portable hard drives, solid-state drives, digital music players, card readers, multimedia products and industrial products. ADATA is the second largest memory module provider and the third for USB flash drives with over 500 NAND Flash patents.

Taiwan plays the role of a significant manufacturer to meet the burgeoning demand for tablets. In 2011-2012, ASUS’s Transformer and Acer’s Iconia tablets have attracted enormous attention from tech-savvy experts and business professionals across the world; and they are going a step further towards the new Windows 8 operating system to catch the next wave.

Smart phone is another arena with many active Taiwanese contenders. Despite fierce competition, HTC delivered 43.5 million units in 2011 with an 8.9% global market share as the world’s fifth largest smart phone provider and the second in Android phones.

Whether you are using mobile devices or desktop computers; you will need first-class network equipments to connect to the Internet. Taiwanese manufacturers, such as D-Link and Edimax, have a considerable market share in providing network equipments that helps one stay connected.

Moreover, smart gadgets bring more convenience to your life. For example, video conferencing of AVer, mobile scanner of Avision, special designed gaming computer cases from Cooler Master, High-performance power supply from Enermax, ring style touch presenter from Genius, a chunky pencil-shaped touched panel pen from Just Mobile, and the world's first on-bard Fan Device Gaming keyboard from Thermaltake.

Since the first days of computer multimedia, Taiwan is widely known for its ability to innovate; and it is still an important source of TV tuner device, set-top boxes, projectors and other entertainment units from companies such as Optoma, BenQ, AVerMedia and PX. Optoma is currently the third largest DLP projector vendor of the world exploring new opportunities in miniaturized and 3D projectors; and BenQ has quickly become the world’s second place in DLP projectors as well as the second largest short-throw and 3D projector brand in Asia.

Taiwanese brands combine continual innovations in products offerings with sophisticated targeting of consumer segments to win the hearts of today’s hypermobile Indian consumers. This trend is catching up not only in key major cities of India but also tier II emerging cities. In sync with the campaign theme, a wide range of home appliances and sports & leisure products have been introduced to the discerning Indian consumer. The foremost aim of the Taiwan Excellence is to showcase the ‘Reliability’, ‘Innovation’ and ‘Value’ strengths of Taiwanese products, to an increasingly aspiring audience base in India.
