Composed of equal contributions from Vishay’s management and its strategic business partners in Asia, the funds were raised via a Silk Route Trek dubbed “50 km for 50 people in 50 hours”. The trek attracted 50 sign-ups in just seven days from within Vishay and its business partners.
“When we were planning for Vishay’s 50th successful year in business, we wanted to hold a memorable event that reinforced our corporate values of kindness, generosity, determination, and diligence, as well as one that would foster team building and cultural understanding,” said Mr. Christopher Tan, Administrative President, Asia, Vishay Intertechnology. “It was a tall order, but this 50-km trek energized and inspired us all.”
“The management, staff, associates, and friends of Vishay have given generously of their time, effort, and money to help the children and their families impacted by childhood cancer. Their contributions will go a long way towards helping to fund critical programs for more than 500 children and their families whom we help annually. Our beneficiaries are encouraged by the support, knowing that they are not alone in their fight against cancer,” said Ms. Lay-Tin Neo, Executive Director, Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF).
Ms. Neo added that every year, in order to help more than 500 children and their families who are battling the illness at different stages, CCF needs to raise US$4.5 million to fund all its services. CCF employs professional social workers and counselors and, together with hospitals and other community partners, helps children and families affected by cancer with free services such as interim school, therapeutic play, support to siblings, caregiver’s support, and financial assistance, as well as palliative care and bereavement support.
Among the business partners whose employees participated in the 50-km trek were Arrow Electronics, Avnet Inc, Changnam INT Ltd, Highland Electronics Co. Ltd, Ryoden Trading Co. Ltd, Tomen Electronics Corp., TTI Inc, Weikeng Technology Pte Ltd, Willas-Array Electronics (Holdings) Limited, World Peace Industrial (WPI) Group, and Yosun Group.
Representatives of these companies attended Vishay’s Appreciation Dinner held in Singapore on July 16. “Without the support of our partners, we would not have been able to raise the target amount to help improve the lives of children affected by cancer. We deeply appreciate the support and kindness from our partners and within Vishay,” said Mr. Christopher Tan of Vishay.
