Philips’ Employees And School Children Join Hands For A Greener Bengaluru

As part of its larger community involvement initiative, Philips Innovation Campus (PIC) organized sapling plantation program on Saturday, August 4th 2012. The program saw over 80 employee volunteers from PIC along with their families planted over 1000 saplings near Bannerghatta in Bangalore. Children from various schools in Bangalore supported by PIC also participated in this program. On this occasion, the participants also engaged with people from the surrounding areas on the importance of green cover and ways to protect the environment.

PIC has a dedicated team of over a hundred employees forming the Community Involvement Team (CIT). This team seeks to make a difference in the needy sections of the community through its various activities in healthcare, employability and education. The team’s efforts has touched the lives of more than 5000 people in 2011 alone.
PIC continues to be active with various other green initiatives. Among its initiatives, PIC is keenly focused on recycling e-waste. It encourages employees to drop off used batteries/cells along with other e-waste like CDs, floppies and pen drives in a common pool at work, which is then recycled/disposed off safely. In the pipeline, is a plan to start roof-top gardening on campus, to grow vegetables in an organic and sustainable manner for the PIC employee food court. This is meant to encourage employees to be personally involved in contributing to a greener tomorrow.
