Thursday, February 27, 2014 With the massive competition in the electronics field, both for the production and usage of the octacore chipsets. Samsung unveiled two new octacore and hexacore chipsets at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The company announced the Exynos 5260 Hexa and the Exynos 5422 Octa, successor to the Exynos 5 Octa 5410.

Earlier, Samsung used the Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset in the Galaxy S4 variant. Its successor, Exynos 5422 Octa has four Cortex-A15 cores clocked up to 2.1GHz that will handle all the heavy tasks, with four Cortex-A7 cores clocked up to 1.5GHz to take care of lighter jobs. The new version of octa 5 is said to give 34 per cent higher performance than the older Exynos 5 octa models, as reported by the CrazyEngineers.

Samsung used the home-made HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing) technology, which enables the device to use any combination of up to eight cores. The chipset supports 2,560 x 1,600 displays and 4K video recording. It also saves power consumption by up to 10 per cent.

The new Exynos 5260 Hexa chipset by Samsung is reportedly known when the company announced the Galaxy Note 3 Neo. The chipset has a total of six CPU cores, of which two are 1.7GHz Cortex A-15 cores and four are 1.3GHz Cortex A-7 cores. The Exynos 5260 has all the abilities as that of the Exynos 5422, except 4K video recording.

The 5260 offers full HD at 60 fps playback or recording. It can run on all the combination of six cores, including all the six cores at once. The graphics with this CPU is Mali-T624. It is to be noted that the Exynos 5422 Octa is scheduled for mass production in April 2014, and the Exynos 5260 Hexa is in mass production, already. Samsung also revealed two new CMOS camera sensors with ISOCELL technology in 16 MP and 13 MP resolution. The cameras can record 1080p videos. However, 16 MP sensor can record full HD videos at 60 fps and will also go in production in April 2014. The 13 MP ISOCELL sensor can capture images at 30 fps and will be available in and after July 2014.
