8 Handy Tutorials For Electronics Engineers
Electronics can be fun if you really know how to play with it.

Friday, April 11, 2014 Electronics is a pretty vast subject that covers various aspects of our daily lives. For an electronics engineer, learning about circuits doesn't stop with basic circuitry. You have to go into radio, antenna and other aspects as well. Here are some tutorials that will help you with that.

Electronics Engineers, tutorials, The Electronic Design Method, Circuit Analysis by Dave Sager, You, too can do 0402!, Introduction to Semiconductors, Ultrasound Analog Electronics, Optical Character Recognition Using Fuzzy Logic, 555 Timer Tutorial, Introduction to Power MOSFETs

1.The Electronic Design Method

This guide describes the basic process (used by most companies) for designing a new electronic product. The "Circuit - PCB - Prototype - Test" cycle yields working electronic prototypes. The design then goes on to beta testing, pilot run, and production release. In addition to the electronics work described, usually an industrial designer will be employed to produce the enclosure or case, with labelling and graphics.

2.Circuit Analysis by Dave Sager

This presentation was written and used to teach circuit analysis very quickly in a course on processor design for computer science students. The students began with no background in electronics or circuits at all. They did have significant programming ability, and were relatively sophisticated in mathematics. The circuits unit was to bring these students to a level of sophistication in circuits so that they would be capable of doing a DC analysis of a TTL or ECL gate circuit, with a number of transistors and diodes and any applied input voltage, by hand. Therefore they would be able to produce the Z shaped transfer function of such a gate by hand. They would also be able to analyse a 2 transistor flip flop by hand and to show that it can be in 3 different states.

3.You, too can do 0402!

ncreasingly components are available only in surface mount packages. While surface mount assembly requires some different tools and techniques than through hole assembly, these tools are not particularly expensive and the techniques are not difficult to master. This article describes some tools and techniques available for assembling prototype or low volume surface mount printed circuit boards.

4.Introduction to Semiconductors

The fundamentals of semiconductors are typically found in textbooks discussing quantum mechanics, electro-magnetics, solid-state physics and statistical thermodynamics. The purpose of this chapter is to review the physical concepts, which are needed to understand the semiconductor fundamentals of semiconductor devices.

5.Ultrasound Analog Electronics

Although ultrasound relies substantially on digital processing, the key to its performance lies in a heavily analog technology. The author examines the contributions of the analog and mixed-signal components used in ultrasound imaging. Naturally, since each element would by itself need a chapter or a book of its own to provide fully useful information for the system designer, this article is intended to provide an overview and furnish a basic understanding of medical ultrasound architecture.

6.Optical Character Recognition Using Fuzzy Logic

This application note shows how to envision, describe, and realise a design using fuzzy logic. It is not intended to be an introduction to fuzzy logic, but it is basic enough to be understood by designers with a cursory understanding of the subject. For those who seek an introduction to fuzzy logic, the Freescale Fuzzy Logic Educational Kit is an excellent primer.

7.555 Timer Tutorial

In this tutorial the author will show you what exactly the 555 timer is and how to properly use it by itself or in combination with other solid state devices without the requirement of an engineering degree.

8.Introduction to Power MOSFETs

The high voltage power MOSFETs that are available today are N-channel, enhancement-mode, double diffused, Metal- Oxide-Silicon, Field Effect Transistors. They perform the same function as NPN, bipolar junction transistors except the former are voltage controlled in contrast to the current controlled bi-polar devices. Today MOSFETs owe their ever-increasing popularity to their high input impedance and to the fact that being a majority carrier device, they do not suffer from minority carrier storage time effects, thermal run-away, or second breakdown.
