Friday, April 18, 2014 Even as speculations around Google's next major Android update go fiercer each day, Android Police has now come up and spilled some beans for the global search engine giant's upcoming iteration of its Android platform, reportedly dubbed Project Hera. Buzz has it that the Google is also planning a makeover of its Android app icons in a bid to make the look similar to its Web app icons.

The alleged makeover being referred to as 'Moonshine' is part of Google's recent plans to bring forward a unified user interface across Google's mobile devices (Chrome OS included), courtesy Project Hera. Android Police reports that the upcoming iteration will bring along a flatter visual appearance, presence of shadows behind elements much indicative of Google's current visual asset guidelines. Further, the website has leakes a screenshot of the alleged new app icons style showing evamped app icons for Books, Calendar, Camera, Chrome, Games, Gmail, Google+, Hangouts and so on. Interestingly, the new Play Store icon now sees a revamped Play symbol in a bluish colour tone.

Meanwhile, Google has now released the Chrome Remote Desktop app for the Android platform, making it possible for users to access their Windows/Mac systems through their Android-powered smartphones/tablets. A similar app for iOS users is expected to arrive later this year.

"Since 2011, Chrome Remote Desktop has let you remotely access your machine from another laptop or computer in a free, easy and secure way. And now, with the release of the Chrome Remote Desktop app for Android, we're making it possible for you to do the same thing from your Android device," Husain Bengali, Remotely Controlled Product Manager at Google wrote on his official blog. The Chrome Remote Desktop app for Android will let users access any data on their computers once they have downloaded and installed the app on their smartphone/tablet via the Google Play Store. In addition users will also have to install the equivalent app on their desktops via the Chrome Webstore. Once installed, go through the relevant set up on the desktop and you're good to go. The app is compatible with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and later.
