Tuesday, June 12, 2012: Sony's love for the Android platform is quite evident with its line-up of tablets and smartphones. The company took the open source mobile platform to another level with its SmartWatch. The product was first showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show this year. The company is planning to launch this small Android based-device at Rs 6,299 in the Indian market. The information about the pricing of the gadget was revealed on the Sony India Facebook page.
The company demonstrated the device at CES 2012 where it showed how the SmartWatch received data feeds from handsets including Facebook and Twitter updates, as well as it was able to remotely control the mobile audio player software. The device will have 15 pre-installed apps at launch but will store up to 255. Just like Apple's iPod nano, it displays four apps at a time in a grid pattern. The device functions as a wrist watch but allows users to control their Android smartphones remotely.

The SmartWatch features a 3.3-cm (1.3-inch) OLED display. The users can use the watch to get updates as it vibrates and gives screen alerts. Users can get alerts about key events like an incoming call, text, messages and social feeds.
