In a brief statement, the company cleared the air by saying that it prefers to offer its own proprietary drivers for running its graphics hardware with Linux.

Wednesday, June 20, 2012: When the Linux creator himself threw the F-bomb on a company, it means a whole lot for the linux enthusiasts. The video of Linus Torvalds saying the F-word for Nvidia on being asked about the Linux support went viral within few hours. The video has already reached half a million views on YouTube so far. However, the company has now come ahead and cleared it stance. However, the company is not at all apologetic about its approach for open source operating system.
In a brief statement, the company cleared the air by saying that it prefers to offer its own proprietary drivers for running its graphics hardware with Linux. It read: “While we understand that some people would prefer us to provide detailed documentation on all of our GPU internals, or be more active in Linux kernel community development discussions, we have made a decision to support Linux on our GPUs by leveraging NVIDIA common code, rather than the Linux common infrastructure,” reads a canned statement from Nvidia. “While this may not please everyone, it does allow us to provide the most consistent GPU experience to our customers, regardless of platform or operating system.”

Linus had complained that while Nvidia is doing fine with Android, but not with the original incarnation of Linux. But Nvidia feels there is nothing wrong. “Supporting Linux is important to NVIDIA, and we understand that there are people who are as passionate about Linux as an open source platform as we are passionate about delivering an awesome GPU experience,” Nvidia said.
