Wooga Developers Release Codes For HTML5 Mobile Game

Friday, June 22, 2012: After experimenting with HTML 5 based mobile games for an year, game development studio Wooga has come up with a complete mobile game with standard-based Web technologies. To share their success, the developers have released source codes of the game under an open source software license on GitHub. Wooga has also shared its development experience at a blog entry stating what they learnt while developing a HTML 5 based mobile game. They are expecting to add to the Web development community’s body of knowledge by releasing the source codes as they find immense potential in HTML 5 gaming.
"The reason we’re making Pocket Island open source is so that talented developers all around the world can learn from the team’s work here at Wooga, before breaking and improving on it," the company wrote in a blog post. "The promise of HTML5 is still an exciting one and while the time for mass market implementation may not be in 2012, we’re confident its time will come."

It is worth mentioning here that Mozilla and Google have shown interest in browser-based gaming. The former even made its own open source game as a demonstration, using WebSockets to support a real-time multiplayer environment.
