Tech Update: Panasonic Cube ACs
The newly introduced air conditioner is a product, which is designed with localised features for the Indian market.
Panasonic launched its CUBE air conditioner (AC) in India in March this year in response to the widespread demand for an AC that is workable in tough Indian climatic condition. It also had to keep in mind the high space constraints.
The CUBE AC has been developed and launched, considering the requirements of Indian customers, analysed via a survey conducted by Panasonic a couple of years ago. The CUBE AC is a culmination of 18 months' work by a special Panasonic project team of 15, based at Panasonic's regional AC manufacturing plant in Kuala Lumpur with valuable inputs and support from Panasonic India. The CUBE AC has been introduced with two entry-level models with a cooling capacity starting from 1.25 ton to 1.5 ton and is available in four-colour variants - White, Ruby, Dark Grey and Dark Brown. The CUBE AC is priced between Rs 18,000 to Rs 21,000.
Design and Technology
The CUBE AC, with its unique and stylish design, can be mounted close to a ceiling or at window level.
The AC is well protected against corrosive elements and weather because of its Bluefin Condenser, which promises to be tough and durable. The special anti-rust coating extends the life span of the AC by three times.
The Cube AC is a compact, energy-efficient, high-performer AC with a sleek and stylish design. The Cube AC is essentially a combination of split AC and window AC.
The AC comes with key features like - faster cooling and better air flow with a reduced noise level, which is enabled by a highly efficient diagonal propeller fan for wider air discharge.
Improved blade shape curvature simultaneously enhances aerodynamic performance. This also translates into reduced energy consumption. The AC has a front intake grill with a wider air discharge, which delivers better airflow for fast cooling effect.

Difference: Cube AC V/s Split AC
Unlike the longer version of a split AC, the cube AC is slightly squared to give it a shape of the cube on the whole, thereby giving an aesthetic look unlike the regular split ACs.
A Split AC has a cooling unit that remains inside the room while the exhaust remains outside the house or the building. Hence, it is a better choice for commercial spaces and offices, whereas, Cube ACs are easy to install and considering their limited cooling capacity, they fit well in small spaces.
Eco-Friendly Product
Cube AC comes with less water usage and power saving features with also almost zero carbon di-oxide emission. "The eco navi technology senses about the presence and absence in the room and adjusts its coolness automatically, thereby increasing the AC's energy efficiency," comments Manish Sharma, managing director--consumer product division, Panasonic India.
Verdict
All in all, the whole Cube AC package from Panasonic seems like an innovative and interesting effort from the company. While the product is still waiting to gain mass acceptance in the country, the idea from Panasonic to reach out to the entry-level consumers in the country is appreciable.
